The Deadmines

    Dungeon Overview

The Deadmines is open to players up to a max level of 26 in Hardcore mode, and the recommended level is 19+. The Deadmines are located in Westfall through a building in Moonbrook and are inhabited by Edwin VanCleef and the Defias Brotherhood. The dungeon is set up linearly and is very beneficial for Alliance players to run because of the quest exp.

    Estimated Completion Time: 45-60 mins

    Getting There

As an Alliance player, getting there is simple. Travel to Moonbrook in Westfall south of Sentinel Hill and enter the southernmost building.

As a Horde player, it can be a bit tricky to arrive safely. The easiest way to get to Westfall is by jumping off the UNDERCITY TO GROM’GOL ZEPPELIN. Upon zoning into STV, wait a few seconds then jump off into the water. Be careful as there are a few islands that you can land on if not timed properly. If you attempt to jump off the Orgrimmar to Grom’gol zeppelin, you will most likely land in elite lvl 35 Murloc infested waters and die. Jumping off the wrong zeppelin on the way to the Deadmines has led to more Horde deaths than the actual dungeon.

An alternative is taking the boat from Ratchet to Booty Bay and swimming along the fatigue line of western STV. This way takes much longer but is more fool proof than the zeppelin method.

    Things to Look Out For

Whenever each of the first 3 bosses (Rhahk’Zor, Sneed, Gilnid) are killed, a pack of patrolling Defias will spawn. It is recommended that after you kill each boss that you backtrack to clear out the patrol as they potentially catch up to you and catch you unprepared.

    Defias Patrol

The smelting room is considered very dangerous. Goblin Engineers can summon elite mechanical minions, but they can be interrupted by Gouge or by Polymorph. Goblin Craftsmen have a powerful debuff called Melt Ore which slows by 40% and deals fire damage over time. Pulling multiple craftsmen can lead to multiple Melt Ore debuffs being placed. The goblins will patrol around the room, so be mindful when pulling.

    Goblin Engineer

In the final room of the Deadmines, it can be easy to aggro mobs above you on higher platforms of the boat construction by jumping, so keep yer feet on the ground to avoid accidentally pulling above you.

On the boat, there are multiple evade spots that are easily accessible. The giant wheel near the top can be used to reset the mobs in case of emergency. The cannons are also evade spots.

    Collecting Memories - Alliance

This quest is picked up in the Dwarven District of Stormwind from Wilder Thistlenettle. The Miners’ Union Cards are dropped in a small section of the outer non instanced elite area by Undead mobs. Typically, there are not enough spawns for all 5 party members to get the 4 drops needed, so it is recommended that a couple of party members pass on the quest.

    Rewards:

    The Unsent Letter - Alliance

This quest is started by An Unsent Letter which drops off Edwin VanCleef. It turns into Baros Alexston in the Cathedral Square in Stormwind. This leads to a long quest chain including a Stockades Dungeon quest. The chain eventually leads to the powerful Seal of Wrynn reward, so it is highly recommended that you complete this quest.

The Test of Righteousness - paladin

This quest is a part of the paladin class quest chain that leads to the creation of the powerful Vergian’s Fist. The Whitestone Oak Lumber for this quest is picked up off Goblin Woodcarvers in Sneed’s room.

    Loot:

    Sneed and Shredder

Sneed is a 2 fight part. The first part you fight against Sneed’s Shredder, an elite level 20 mechanical, which can fear and has a casting speed debuff. Once you defeat the shredder, Sneed, an elite level 20 goblin, will be ejected and begin attacking. Sneed is dual wielding and does a decent amount of damage, so healers should be prepared. Sneed can disarm but is usually handled without much issue.

    Gilnid

    Gilnid

Gilnid is an elite level 20 goblin found in the forge area of the Deadmines. Typically, he pulls with one other add, so it is recommended to CC the add or focus it at the start. Gilnid will cast a debuff that deals fire damage and slows movement and attack speed. He has a chance to drop one of the best rings for this level that is highly sought after by most mana users.

    Mr. Smite

Mr. Smite is an elite level 20 tauren found on the ramp leading up to the boat in the final room of the Deadmines. He comes with 2 stealthed elites at the base of the ramp. Abilities:

    Loot:

    Edwin VanCleef

    Edwin VanCleef

Edwin VanCleef is an elite level 21 human who is found at the top of the ship in the Deadmines. This fight can be a bit tricky, so remember that you have access to the ship’s wheel and cannon evade spots if the fight goes wrong. When pulled initially, he brings 2 stealthed adds with him. It is recommended that you kill the 2 adds before focusing VanCleef because once he reaches 50% health, he will spawn 2 more adds. Most groups will kill the first 2 adds, then ignore the second 2 adds and focus down VanCleef. It is possible to STUN VanCleef as he hits 50% to prevent the 2nd wave of adds from spawning, but the timing is hard to hit. The adds can be CC’ed, so Psychic Scream, Polymorph, Intimidating Shout are all great ways to reduce the amount of damage the tank takes. He drops the Unsent Letter which leads to the Seal of Wrynn, so be sure to loot him if you are Alliance.
